The Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) was chartered by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications as a public service corporation on May 15, 1995. Its activities include those previously performed by the Research and Development Center for Radio Systems (RCR) and Broadcasting Technology Association (BTA).
ARIB was established in response to several trends such as the growing internationalization of telecommunications, the convergence of telecommunications and broadcasting, and the need for promotion of radio-related industries. ARIB's goal is to advance rapidly the use of radio technology for the benefit of society. This is done by integrating knowledge and experience in various fields of radio use such as broadcasting and telecommunications, research and development in radio technology, and serving as a standards development organization for radio technology.

The Advanced Television Systems Committee, Inc. (ATSC), is an international, non-profit membership organization developing voluntary standards for the entire spectrum of advanced television systems.
Specifically, ATSC is working to coordinate television standards among different communications media focusing on digital television, interactive systems, and broadband multimedia communications. ATSC is also developing digital television implementation strategies and presenting educational seminars on the ATSC standards.

The Audio and Video Coding Standard (AVS) Workgroup of China was authorized and established by Science and Technology Department under National Information Industry Ministry in June, 2002. In order to meet the requirement of information industry and realize the union of the native enterprises and research institutions, the role of the group is to establish (or edit) such general technical standards as the compression, decoding, processing, and the representation of digital audio-video and meanwhile provide the digital audio-video equipments and systems with high-efficient and economic coding/decoding technologies. This standard is applied in the field of significant information industry such as high-resolution digital broadcast, high-density laser-digital storage media, wireless broad-band multimedia communication, and internet broad-band stream media.

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), is the leading technical society for the motion imaging industry. SMPTE was founded in 1916 to advance theory and development in the motion imaging field. Today, SMPTE publishes ANSI-approved Standards, Recommended Practices, and Engineering Guidelines, along with the highly regarded SMPTE Journal and its peer-reviewed technical papers. SMPTE holds conferences and local Section meetings to bring people and ideas together, allowing for useful interaction and information exchange.
