AV Network Solutions

There are several key attributes that distinguish an AV network from a traditional home data network:

  • Support for real-time streaming of multiple high-definition video streams, multi-home HD DVR, and other media-rich content
  • Guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) to ensure 100% delivery of content
  • Support for time sensitive, synchronous applications such as IPTV and voice over IP (VoIP)

A traditional home network is geared to deliver data in an unsynchronized fashion. But unsynchronized data often leads to a poor video streaming experience. Consumers have become accustomed to waiting for downloads of video and tolerating video stuttering and stoppages. This is not the case with AV networks. In these QoS-enabled networks, the consumer experience is paramount. There can be no jitter, pixelization, or interruption of services.

CopperGate, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sigma Designs, offers a range of solutions that are perfect for implementing AV networks. The HomePNA® and HomePlug® AV solutions use existing wires in the home (coax, phone lines, or AC power lines) and deliver as much as 200 Mbps of continuous throughput - more than enough to meet the needs of service providers. These CopperGate solutions are already running more IPTV traffic than any other home AV network solution, providing best of class reliability. Installation time of home AV networks by service providers is also reduced by up to 50% due to proprietary know-how for installation procedures and architectures.

UWB-over-Coax also offers cost savings in home AV network installations, taking advantage of the coax already present in most homes to connect devices between rooms. Within a room, wireless UWB access can be used to provide mobility and reduce the number of cables required to connect devices. UWB-over-Coax is capable of data rates up to 480 Mbps (payload rates up to 400 Mbps), more than enough for the delivery of rich multimedia content distribution around the home, and can coexist with digital cable signals and MoCA® on the same wire.

HomePNA® Solutions

HomePNA® Solutions

HomePNA® (HPNA) is the marketing name for ITU-T Recommendation G.9954, and is the leading standard and technology used for transferring Internet Protocol (IP) content across existing coax cables or phone wires in the home.

HomePNA® MDU Solutions

HomePNA® MDU Solutions

Multiple Dwelling Units (MDUs), such as apartment buildings and condominiums, house a significant portion of the population worldwide, especially in high-density areas. These high-rise buildings demand different applications and technologies than those used in single-family homes.

HomePlug® Solutions

HomePlug® Solutions

HomePlug® AV (HPAV) is the leading standard and technology used for transferring Internet Protocol (IP) content across existing AC power wires in the home.

G.hn Solutions

G.hn Solutions

G.hn is the marketing name for ITU-T Recommendation G.9960, the next generation home AV network standard for transferring Internet Protocol (IP) content across existing coax cables, phone lines, and AC power lines in the home. This universal standard delivers the ultimate in performance (up to 1 Gbps) with the highest level of interconnectivity among devices in the home.

UWB Solutions

UWB Solutions

Home AV networking without having to install additional wiring reduces installation costs while being more viable and flexible. Ultra-Wideband (UWB) is the only technology that supports both wired and wireless access with no major modifications to the current specification.
